I’ve been asked that question more times than I can count but it always seems as if I am looking for the “right” answer. Well this is the right answer: I’ve always been a “snapshot” kind of person. I like the idea of a one second picture that captures a moment. I have always loved my instamatic cameras, the ones that click off a perfect picture of a still moment. I always had a desire to capture those moments with a more permanent format. I wanted to capture my family memories in pictures. I wanted to stop the random blur of a moment in time that fades out and disappears. I wanted to be able to keep those moments in a way that they would not fade. That’s when it hit me. The picture I had in mind wasn’t the photo; it was a GIF. It wasn’t a snapshot of a moment, it was a piece of an entire day or week. It wasn’t a picture, it was a story. So I started to put together a project that took a month, maybe two, to put together. I wanted to make a story of a day. I wanted to capture every single moment of my life. I didn’t want to take a bunch of pictures of my dog, my family and I at a family cookout. I wanted to include every little moment, every “snapshot” of my life. I started with the hours and parts of the day. I had my camera. I had my memories. I had my imagination. The only thing that I lacked was the knowledge of how to process it all. I still had a lot of work to do and that is what a long month it took me. I still had to process the images. I had to find a way to make a gallery out of it all. My original idea was that I wanted to create a picture that would tell a story. I wanted to make a slideshow out of my life. I had so many hours of footage. I thought, at first, that I would use Vimeo or YouTube to put it together. I would start at my first day of school and work backwards through the days. It was going to be a beautiful thing to see.
